Books by Friends
I'd like to introduce you to a few books by friends of mine, people considered to be among the best & brightest, up and coming authors. Of course I may be a little biased because these books are by friends of mine. Still, they are definitely worth checking out! These books are also available for Kindle!
Elvin L. Turner was my mom's friend first. When she was hired as a junior high teacher in an inner city school at age 60, he was her principal. What began as co-workers developed into a mutually encouraging friendship. Mom's story about this time in her life so inspired me I even wrote an article about it. Mom and Mr. Turner remained friends until her death and he has even become a supportive family friend to me and my family.
I was excited to learn Elvin had published a collection of his poems. Many will relate to the themes that are insightful and wise coming from a life that has experienced and observed much. I especially like "Be an Encourager" because it reminds me of both Elvin and my Mom. The book is available in paperback and on Kindle.
My friend Wayne Holmes both writes and compiles true stories of inspiration and courage. Each of these collections is packed with poignant stories from favorite authors such as
Beth Moore, Max Lucado, Josh McDowell, Corrie Ten Boom, and Stormie Omartian. Better grab your tissues before you start reading. (Psst. . .Don't tell anyone, but my darling children contributed a few prayers from their journal to Wayne's Whispering in God's Ear) All of these books are fabulous. Check them out today!
And, check out Wayne's latest book which is a riveting story of redemption:
My "books by friends" list must include a collection by Shannon Kubiak Primicerio. Shannon is an incredibly together young woman which lends credence to the advice she shares. Her first book, The Divine Dance explores the intense pressures facing women today such as image, integrity, dating, family relationships, friendships, and maintaining a personal relationship with Christ. Teen girls and young adult women will love this book. It’s a fabulous read for older-in-body-but-young-at-heart women, too!
Shannon speaks to teen girls in such an authentic and moving way. Since her breakout novel, she has published three more wonderful books. If you have a teen girl in your household, you're gonna want her to read Shannon's books.
