Christian Music Reviews

by Linda Wakefield Kelley

For several years I worked (on a free-lance basis) for The Cincinnati Enquirer writing Christian music reviews.

One of the funniest experiences I had as a reviewer was at a dcTalk concert. There was an opening act I was unfamiliar with. Toby Mac introduced the newcomers, but I didn't catch the name. I noticed some people near us seemed to know Toby. So, I asked one of the girls, "Are you here with dcTalk?"

The girl indicated she was. I asked her if she knew the name of the band that had just been introduced explaining that I was writing a review for the Enquirer and wanted to get the name right.

This girls mouth dropped and she stuttered, "You're a writer for the National Enquirer?"

After a good laugh, I explained I wasn't working for that Enquirer.

I learned a good lesson though. As you writer you have to be very clear about what you say -- whether it's aloud or in print.

These Christian music reviews I wrote for The Cincinnati Enquirer are still available online:

Top Ten Reasons to Take a Christian Music Cruise

    10. No one can reach you by cell phone and you can't phone any one either.

    9. You'll definitely bond with your family while sleeping five in a room the size of a telephone booth.

    8. You will have multiple opportunities to model generous giving for your children.

    7. You will meet people from all over the world.

    6. You'll get your picture taken so often you'll experience the life of a paparazzi-hounded star -- for a little while anyway.

    5. You will definitely Rock 'n' Roll -- even if none of the bands do.

    4. There will be endless opportunites for fantastic Christian music (5 different choices several times a night).

    3. The food at breakfast, the food at lunch, the food at dinner, the food at the midnight buffet and all the other times in between.

    2. Free pizza and ice cream 24/7.

And, the number one reason to take a Christian Music cruise is. . .

You just might run into a celebrity now and again. We bumped into Joy Williams on the beach in the Bahamas while on our K-LOVE cruise (Jan. 2004). She's such a sweetheart. Love her new CD "Genesis" and the hit single "Hide."

Do you like Christian parody? Paul Aldrich is an extremely funny guy and his CD Mock 'n' Roll will literally have you rolling with laughter. Check out my Christian music review for this CD on my blog.

Another fantastic Christian parody group is Apologetix. Give a listen to one of their CD's today. We have "Adam Up" and it's it the CD player quite a lot.
