Home School My Child
"I want to home school my child!" That was a decision I made several years ago.
| Yep, this is the Kelley family precariously perched on the crest of Niagara Falls. Just how we felt when we first decided to home school our children. Hours were spent researching our many questions, bobbing and weaving the turbulent tides of information and emotions. |
I soon discovered having a desire is a long way from accomplishing a goal. I didn't have a clue where to even begin. I quickly realized I needed a game plan. Before I could find answers, I must decide what the questions were for me and my family regarding homeschooling. Here is the list I developed of my top ten most pressing queries that needed to be immediately addressed:| 1) Do I need legal permission to home school. If so, how do I go about accomplishing that. 2) What curriculum(s) should I use? 3) How will I teach three different age levels? 4) How will I teach art, gym, a foreign language? 5) What kind of records should I keep? |
|
6) Should I join a cooperative of fellow homeschoolers? 7) How much will it cost to home school? 8) How will I judge our homeschooling success? 9) Will homeschooling adversely affect the ability to get accepted by a university? And, 10) Is homeschooling the best decision for our family and for all of the children?
Does the home school start-up process have to be so snail-paced, stressful, and stupefying? No! Not if you let Christian-Parenting-Source help you find the resources you need. Perhaps a crash on the rocks can be avoided. Let's first tackle the question of homeschooling different age groups. . .
| What the little ones lack in ability to sit still, they certainly make up for in enthusiasm for learning. So, half the battle is won, right? |
|
|

| The same can be said for the junior high and high school ages. They each have their own appeal and challenges too. Finding just the right curriculum to match each age as well as your child's learning style and personality is the key. |
| Homeschooling in high school brings a new set of issues to conquer. Will you teach a foreign language? What about AP classes? Is there a way to have an extensive Science lab experience? How will you teach advanced mathematics? All of this is achievable in a home school setting. |
