More Teen Christian Music Reviews

By Sean Kelley
and Linda Wakefield Kelley

More teen Christian music reviews was brought to you by Sean Kelley when he was fifteen. At that time this is what he wrote about his life: "I love heavy metal music. Playing video games is often a priority. My favorite video game is 'The Ocarina of Time.' I especially enjoy listening to TFK, Pillar, Kutless, and John Reuben."

Sean is older now and in college. He still likes to play video games and attend concerts. Linda Wakefield Kelley has assumed the responsibility for this page, now that Sean has other commitments. Drop us a line if there is a CD you would like reviewed.

Skillet fans, appropriately called “Panheads,” are going to love the increased tonnage on Skillet’s latest CD. Collide offers titanic heavy metal and steely hard rock which is different from the bands earlier albums.

Collide was first released in 2003 under the Ardent Records label. Collide (Enhanced), which adds a song called “Open Wounds,” was released in 2004 under the Lava Records label.
Each of Skillet’s CD’s offers a unique sound. Invincible (2000) carries a sort of techno sound. Ardent Worship provides a live worship experience (2000) and Alien Youth (2001) is a CD with a rock ‘n roll flavor.

Collide goes in yet another direction. There is a definite heavier metal sound to Skillet’s latest CD. When you max the volume you hear less electronic keyboards than previous CD’s replaced by grittier guitar strains. What really distinguishes Skillet’s Collide from other CD’s in the rock/heavy metal genre are lead singer John Cooper’s rough-edged vocals. Cooper’s fellow band members include guitarist/keyboardist wife Korey, guitarist Ben Kasica, and drummer Lori Peters.

Every song on Skillet’s Collide is awesome. If I had to pick three favorites they would be Imperfection, Energy, and My Obsession. These songs are the best because of their intense heavy metal sound and John Cooper’s outstanding vocals. Grade for this CD: A+
