Parenting Books
This list will undoubtedly grow, but for now I'd like to recommend my favorite parenting books:
Focus on the Family: Complete Book of Baby and Child Care
|
This is an incredible parenting book resource from Focus on the Family. If you’re looking to purchase one comprehensive child care book, this has got to be it. Why assemble an entire library spanning the usual parenting themes? Instead, invest in The Complete Book of Baby and Child Care. It covers common childhood illnesses, first-aid and emergency care, effective discipline, teen sexuality, eating disorders, parenting temperaments, behavioral patterns of children . . . and more. What I like most about the book, though, is that it covers the physical, mental, and spiritual development of a child. |
Mom Overboard: 12 Lifesavers for Mom's Who'd Rather Swim than Sink
|
What a lifesaver this book has been for me. Life Coach Robin Chaddock helps moms discover their Divine Assignment or unique identity and purpose in life. This helps moms influence family and friends more effectively Robin explains. The author then tosses 12 Lifesavers to sinking moms (such as The Listening Lifesaver and The Laughter Lifesaver). Each Lifesaver is packed to the gills with practical ideas from moms who have capsized – and survived. In fact, I was able to contribute a Recording Lifesaver (page 150). If you're a mom who needs rescuing, buy this book today! |
Dr. Chaddock is now offering this wonderful book for the much reduced price of $5 on her website

Check out this terrific parenting book before you buy it. There is a fabulous excerpt from "Mom Overboard" entitled
"Stress Reduction through Balanced Self-care"
posted in my article library.
This is a classic that should be on every parent’s bookshelf as well as in their hearts. My husband and I first read “The Blessing” when our children were small. In this book Family counselors Gary Smalley and John Trent explain how important it is for children (of all ages) to receive their parents’ approval.
 The Blessing
|
When that blessing is not given, individuals often spend years trying to find it at work, through relationships, or elsewhere. Sometimes parents go to their grave not having told their children they love and value them.
This book explains how to find – and give – the unconditional acceptance the Bible calls “The Blessing.” On my computer (and on the refrigerator) we have an address label. Written there are the five key elements of the blessing serving as a reminder to give our children the blessing daily. (Available in hardback, paperback, discussion guide and workbook. Use the Barnes & Noble search box below to find the version that works best for you.) |

The cover photo plus title are great foreshadowing techniques which accurately warn of the hilarity to be found inside this book.
